MOLASSES

BRIEF:

Visually honor the legacy of black resistance and liberation within Caribbean Carnival culture.

Create an engaging, interactive experience that celebrates the importance of Caribbean carnivals, as generational tradition of honouring ancestors and reclaiming the Caribbean identity.

Educate and inform through a compelling design narrative that focusses on the significance of using of black molasses to cover the skin (emphasising and taking pride in their blackness)

    • Target Audience: The Caribbean Diaspora

SOLUTION:

I designed an informative and interactive website, with a refernce page to designed to share the resources I used in this project to my audience, the Caribbean Diaspora.

My visual designs aim to reflect this concept, inspired by the book The Black Atlantic by Paul Gilroy. I’ve designed a Caribbean inspired landscape with black waters symbolising the colour of the molasses, the race of the people and the dark historical origins of these events.

Each page offers insight into how a different island celebrates, explore the page to see, hear and read about Caribbean Carnivals.
